Knox County Emergency Communications District

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:
  • Be 18 years old at the time of hire
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent

Hiring Process

The hiring process takes several weeks and includes:
  • CritiCall test
  • In-person interviews
  • Background investigation and fingerprinting
  • Drug screen
  • Hearing and vision testing
  • Psychological evaluation
Certain felony convictions and drug, alcohol, or domestic-violence-related offenses may disqualify applicants during the background investigation.

Work Schedule Expectations

Emergency Communications is a 24/7/365 operation.

Employees work:

  • 12-hour shifts (0600–1800 or 1800–0600)
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A rotating day-off schedule, including every other weekend off

New hires are initially assigned to night shift.
